FFmpeg and the LGPL

Camivex ships FFmpeg under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 2.1 or later, and only as dynamically linked libraries — separate shared libraries that the app loads at run time, not code compiled into the application binary. That is what the LGPL requires to let you replace the library: the FFmpeg libraries that ship with Camivex are distinct files, they can be replaced with a compatible build of your own, and doing so does not require you to modify Camivex.

The FFmpeg source Camivex uses, together with the exact configuration it is built with, is published in the build scripts of the player project the app ships — that fork of fijkplayer, whose scripts come from upstream unchanged. FFmpeg itself is available from ffmpeg.org. If you need the corresponding source for the binaries in a particular release, or would like a written offer to provide it, write to admin@doitech.com and we will supply it.

The FFmpeg libraries ship as part of the app and are subject to their own licence, which is unaffected by the Camivex EULA that covers our code. Where the two differ in respect of FFmpeg itself, the FFmpeg licence governs.
